KINDLE UNLIMITED (Rebecca, Ava and C.I.)

In 2018, community sites took turns covering a book every week. You can see "In 2018, we read books" to review that coverage. We didn't want to repeat ourselves in 2019 or 2020. So when Marcia came up with a way to cover books but with a twist, we were all for it. Marcia's idea was for us to digital books -- we're largely a printed text crowd -- and to use AMAZON's KINDLE UNLIMITED. So for 2021, we'll be trying to do a book a week and trying to just use KINDLE UNLIMITED. This week, we're speaking with Rebecca about her"do not read joan collin's book 'second act'."

So as the year wound down to a close, you showed up with one more book review and it was not a rave.

Rebecca: I hated it. It was a memoir by Joan Collins. SECOND ACT. I like the book. I own it in hardcover and it's probably in a box in the attack -- a box I've never gotten around to unpacking because, you know, I'm me. If it doesn't get unpacked the day I move in, it never does. So I saw it on KINDLE UNLIMITED and thought I'd read it. It is so bad. There are so many pages missing. You'll start reading about her making, for example, RALLY ROUND THE FLAG with Paul Newman and she's about to talk about her friend Paul and the pages are missing. There are about fifty pages throughout the book -- at least -- that are just not there. No one proofs anything at AMAZON apparently.

Do you think you could have followed without having already read it?

Rebecca: No. Not at all. The first time a page went missing, the page before had a period so I didn't notice. I was like, "Well that's an interesting way to end a story and then just to jump cut to another one." I was thinking, "Wow, I don't remember this from Joan." But then the pages started disappearing when she was in the middle of a story. You can't follow it at all.

How did it effect your thoughts of KINDLE UNLIMITED?

Rebecca: I hate it now. That they would do that to a book goes to a complete failure on their part. If they can't get the boo posted in full, they shouldn't have it posted but they apparently care so little that they'll just throw anything up.
