Truest statement of the week

The reason I support trans kids, trans grown-ups, gay, straight, lesbian, whoever, is because I know when I was growing up, I didn’t fit in anywhere. That it was because of the clothes I wore, what my hair looked like, the music I listened to. Those are all things I can rectify. I can cut my hair, I can listen to jazz, I don’t know what. But to be somebody who’s gay, lesbian, and especially trans, I don’t know what it feels like to be trapped in a body that I don’t feel I belong in.

That is why I support that. Because I know I didn’t fit in anywhere until I found pro-wrestling and all the freaks and geeks in the locker room who are just like me. Maybe because they’re a little psychotic and they couldn’t hold down a real job, but that’s another story. Support trans kids, support gay and lesbian rights. I want everybody to be themselves. Just do no harm to everybody else.

Truest statement of the week II

Earlier this week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) declared the rainbow flag a “symbol of aggression” that “should be concerning to all Americans.” Why LGBTQ+ Americans should be concerned about the rainbow flag, she never explained, unless she just forgot that many Americans are LGBTQ+ as she attacked the community.

Media: How can you trust a journalist today?

How can you trust anyone in the media?

tc2

This month, we saw a journalist 'report' on Cornel West's run for president on The People's Party's ticket.  Yes, that story did implode in a matter of days.  That's not what bothered us.  What bothered us was when Cornel switched over to the Green Party and decided to share (see this Iraq snapshot) that he was encouraged to take the nomination.  It wasn't his fault, you see.  He explained on camera that Chris Hedges talked him into it, Chris Hedges promoted the party to him, Chris Hedges was going to be his People's Party running mate but then Chris Hedges' wife put her foot down that he wasn't running.

Remember that journalist who reported on Cornel being the candidate for The People's Party?  It was Chris Hedges.  And in his 'zany' column for SCHEER POST, the serial plagiarist left out all of those details. Chris portrayed himself as a friend of Cornel's interviewing him during a car ride.  He left out the fact that he was the one who pushed the nomination -- both on Cornel and on The People's Party -- and that he was supposed to have announced he was Cornel's running mate.

How do you trust a liar like that?  You really can't.

And the media is full of Chris Hedges-like 'journalists' who just lie over and over.

Last week, failed rapper, Libertarian and hate merchant Maj Tourie lied that the Pride flag included a stripe for pedophiles.  It was a lie.  AFP factchecked:

Activist and designer Daniel Quasar developed the Progress Pride Flag in 2018 (archived here).

"The white, pink and light blue comes from the trans pride flag," Quasar told AFP on June 9. "My use of those colors in the 'Progress Pride Flag' are one and the same as the trans flag served as inspiration for the design."

Activist Monica Helms designed the first transgender pride flag in 1999. It debuted the following year at an LGBTQ pride parade in Phoenix, Arizona.

Helms said in a 2015 interview (archived here) that the light pink and blue stripes symbolize the colors typically associated with girls and boys. She added a white stripe for "everybody else" outside of the "gender binary spectrum."

Quasar said those claiming the colors represent pedophiles are "trying to spin false narratives about my community."

[. . .]

More of AFP's reporting on misinformation about the LGBTQ community is available here.

Don't make the mistake of dismissing Maj as a lone nut job.   FOX NEWS also repeated the lie.  They were forced to 'edit' their story under pressure from the White House whom they accused of flying a pedophile flat and accused of not responding to them of not responding for comment.  Both charges were lies.  In response, FOX "NEWS" deleted a Tweet by their 'reporter' Kerry J. Byrne but:

Fox digital did not add an editor’s note explaining the edits or the headline change to the article, which now reads, “White House flew controversial new transgender flag that troubles some critics in the gay community.”

Some critics in the gay community?    Who? "Gays Against Groomers – a far-right anti-LGBTQ advocacy group."

Yep them.

Transhausen by Proxy parents are transing their children for internet points. They are abusing them for their own sense of validation and importance. We can’t think of too many things much worse than that.

Yep him.

How far does he get to go before people on the left start denouncing him?  He is a bitter old man that's no longer in charge of anything.  His grand monument was supposed to be SOURCEWATCH but it's been restricted, heavily edited and rarely has anything new (November 22nd is not "new" in June).  Like everything else he did, it fell apart.  And now he takes to Tweeting to attack anything left while promoting hate merchants like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jonathan Turley, etc, etc.  He even promotes Noor Bin Ladin.  Now she might raise eyebrows due to her uncle -- yes, that bin Laden -- but our concern is that she's a heavy promoter of Q-Anon crackpot theories and of Donald Trump.

And John's supposed to be left.

If you don't think it matters, consider Ingrid Jaques.

Who?

Our point exactly.

She is a USA TODAY columnist.  And she came across many people's radar last week when her "Social conservatism is on the rise.  Maybe DeSantis is on to something with anti-'woke' fight."

BING NEWS carried it online which exposed her to a new audience.  Resulting in e-mails to this site and THE COMMON ILLS asking, "Who is this liar?"

She's a cherry picker, for one thing, selecting from the poll what she wants to frame her argument -- look at the poll, look at her year choice when quoting in her column.  She's also apparently one of those idiots who never took a research and methodology course in grad school but thinks she can weigh in on polls.  She majored in English for undergrad and in journalism for her grad schooling -- in other words: General Studies major who waited too late to sign up for hotel management.  That may be why she can't be bothered with margin of error (+/- 4%) or bothered by repeated notations by Gallup such as "Percentage without an opinion is not shown" and "Percentage who identify as moderate is not shown."  We doubt she mined the raw data; if you do 2% stated they had no opinion -- on whether or not they were conservative, moderate or liberal.

The question, as asked, is meaningless and questions GALLUP's own polling.  Jaques is attempting to use the polling to justify her stances on issues and those issues aren't covered in the polling.  That's why it's a useless poll for her.

The first question is your political leaning.  On "social issues."  What "social issues"?  They don't define that.

(Jaques looks at another Gallup poll on transgender school athletes in the seventh last paragraph of her nineteen paragraph article.  We're not interested in going through her nonsense and refer you to this video by Leeja Miller on how hate merchants like Jaques have crafted their messaging.)

Abortion is a social issue.  Gallup's polling through May 2022 does not see a decrease in support for abortion (it sees an increase).  A generic question from polling leads Jaques to pimp her own opinions and try to them frame them around polling data (while also ignoring the margin of error).  She's a modern day Paul Revere but, confused, and yelling, "The French are coming! The French are coming!" as she rides through the town on her donkey.

Who is Ingrid Jaques?  A question asked months ago in a letter to THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH by Margo Bartlett:

Ingrid Jacques asserts that what most people call banning books is an effort to “ensure age-appropriate material in school libraries.”

That is, in fact, banning books. Who is Jacques to decide what is appropriate for all children? I have grandchildren who read anything they choose, and I’m sure Jacques would not approve of many of the titles.

For the umpteenth time: If Jacques wants to control her own children’s reading, fine.

What she may not do is decide what is appropriate for ALL children. Put simply, what other kids read —through school and public libraries — is not her business.

Who is she?  An ultra conservative loon who's written for THE NATIONAL REVIEW, THE WEEKLY STANDARD, THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER, etc.

And she's not identified as such.  She's just a generic voice, a generic (albeit manly) looking blond.

When people are working with an agenda, readers deserve to know that.  We're feminists.  More than anything else, that's how we identify and have throughout our time writing here.  We haven't changed.

Strangers like Jaqcues should be labeled.  Readers have a right to know if the person they're reading has a political orietation.  By the same token, there should be relabeling.  John Stauber is not a liberal or a leftist.  You cannot attack LGBTQ+ people on a daily basis and claim to be left, you cannot promote a talk show by a QAnon conspiracy freak and be left, you cannot spend all day attacking THE NATION, the Human Rights Campaign, Poynter, THE GUARDIAN, DEMOCRACY NOW!, on and on it goes. We're all for the left criticizing our own.  We're all for accountability.  Hell, we're all for bitchy.  But at the same time he's slamming the left over and over, Stauber's praising one right-winger after another.  He's not left.  And those outlets that once promoted him should be informing people that, as Rebecca noted, "john stauber is the 21st century david horowitz."

Remember FOX "NEWS" earlier?  How they lied and shilled.  It wasn't a passing fancy, it's their go-to mode.  Tatyana Tandanpolie (SALON) notes:

The online confrontation marks the second time the White House has fired back at Fox News this week. On Wednesday, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized the network for a chyron that called President Joe Biden a "wannabe dictator" Tuesday evening as it aired a split-screen view of Biden's Juneteenth event and former President Donald Trump's rally decrying his 37-count criminal indictmentThe Independent reports.

"So, there are probably about 787 million things that I can say about this, that was wrong about what we saw last night, but I don't think I'm gonna get into it," Jean-Pierre said during her daily briefing.

A spokesperson for Fox News told media outlets in a statement that the controversial chyron was "taken down immediately and was addressed" internally. The response, however, came nearly 12 hours after the chyron aired and reactions to it rolled in.

It's actually worse than that.  BUZZLOVING explains, "Brian Kilmeade, Fox News host, introduced Trump as the president of the USA before a Fox News chyron said President Joe Biden was a 'wannabe dictator'."

We found so much about that interesting.  Including the fact that 'legal scholar' and noted transphobe Jonathan Turley had no comment.  You may remember that when not trashing LGBTQ+ people or ignoring crooked Clarence Thomas' many scandals, Swirley Turley can be found trying to 'tone police.'  If there's been a tut-tut that his name wasn't on, we'd be shocked.  Except until right now.  He's hectored people repeatedly on how the discourse is being poisoned.  Yet a 'news' network -- one he works for -- calls a sitting US president a "wannabe dictator" on air and Jonathan is left without a pearl to clutch.  Apparently, that's what happens when you shove them all up your sphincter.  Or maybe the answer's much simpler and we noted it earlier, "he works for" FOX "NEWS."  That explains the silence, right?

That and a lack of ethics because, after all Howard Kurtz works for FOX "NEWS" and Howard either comments on issues -- troubling ones -- with the network or notes publicly that he has been told not to cover it.  Ethics.  Sad that journalist Howard Kurtz has them but attorney Turley continues to struggle with the very basics.

Who can you trust?  We see lies on the left and right.  Take Chris Hedges.  In 2014, when THE NEW REPUBLIC exposed his long, long pattern of plagiarism, that should have been it for him.  But Katie Halper brings him on her show all the time and she refers to him as "friend of the show."  In what world is that acceptable.  He has been exposed a serial, non-stop plagiarist.  He got caught plagiarizing when he tried to sell his writing to HARPER'S and that prompted the long look, the deep dive, into his work which found he ripped off Naomi Klein, ripped off everyone -- including Ernest Hemingway.  Not only did he do that, but he then lied each time he was asked about the repeated thefts.  Why would Katie Halper -- or anyone who fancies themselves a journalist -- want to be associated with Chris Hedges?  He is a known thief and, when confronted, he lies every time.

People need to know they can trust the media but Chris Hedges -- and journalists promoting him -- destroy that trust as surely as the liars on FOX "NEWS."

Caveat emptor? Let the buyer beware but how can the buyer beware when they're not informed?

SUPERMAN & LOIS dumps all actors of color (Stan)

Maybe DEADLINE needs to diversify their staff?  Stan caught what DEADLINE failed to.

SUPERMAN & LOIS dumps all actors of color

Hope you read Mike's "Hate merchant Ron DeSantis -- Doo-Doo Ron Ron -- does more damage" already. There's a development there.  Sorry, on this part:

If you missed it, SUPERMAN AND LOIS got another season.  It was announced yesterday.  But it's only ten episodes.  Lois' cancer nonsense ran off the audience even more.  So it will most likely be cancelled next year.  In it's 'fourth' season.  With only 51 episodes.  It was a good show before they decided America wanted to see Lois Lane go through cancer.  I won't miss it.  If you abuse your audience, you don't deserve to be on the air.  And, yes, that goes to YOUTUBE personalities as well.

There's a development.  I saw it and offered it to Mike but he's working on his post and almost done -- we're in a rush to get done so we can take part in the roundtable for the gina & krista round-robin (with a special guest! who's going to dish on Glenneth Greenwald).  So I'm running with it and Mike said, "Tell everyone I co-sign on this."

The cast is not returning.  Five people are.  But DEADLINE reports:

The CW’s Superman & Lois has set the returning cast for the recently picked up 10-episode fourth season, with four of the 12 Season 3 series regulars coming back amid budget cuts. Departing as series regulars are Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Erik Valdez, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, Tayler Buck and Sofia Hasmik, Deadline has learned. Five of them had been on the show from the start, Walsh, Chriqui, Valdez, Parks and Navarrette.

Dylan Walsh was good on the show.  He's White.  He'll be missed.  But note that Emmanuelle is a Moroccan Jew, Erik Valdez is Latino, Inde Navarrette is Mexican-American, Wole Parks is a Black Latino, Tayler Buck is Black, Sofia Hasmik is Armenian-American.

All the people of color are gone.

We're not supposed to notice that?

DC want to explain that?  James Gunn planning to address it? A TV show with five characters played by actors of color loses all five in one swipe?

Let's all try to pretend it's not racism.  DEADLINE did.  They don't even note that all the actors of color were fired.

Going out with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"

Thursday, June 15, 2023.  Cornel West tries to change the narrative, Robert Pether remains a prisoner in Iraq, Republican House members try to stuff anti-LGBTQ+ bills into a military spending bill, and much more.

Later today, professor, film bit player, out of touch old man and the best damn rapper since Maya Angelou did BEEN FOUND (with Ashford & Simpson) Cornel West may announce that he's seeking the GOP presidential nomination.  And Chris Hedges may go around telling everyone that Cornel already has the nomination!

Make about as much sense has already happened, right?

THE AIRHEADS were back yesterday, crowing that they were right.  They told us earlier this week that Cornel had the Green Party's presidential nomination.

He didn't.

But if THE AIRHEADS could get it together, they wouldn't be the airheads, now would they?

Cornel is one more person seeking the Green Party's primary nomination.  As we told you yesterday, he and Chrissy Lynn Hedges tried to secure the nomination but were informed there are rules.  He's welcome to run for it but they're going to follow their rules -- like a real political party.

It's amazing how stupid the YOUTUBERS are.  It truly is.  This is where we parted with Jimmy Dore, you may remember.  He had a hard on for Jesse Ventura and, even after 2020, he couldn't let it go that Jesse was not the Green Party's 2020 presidential nominee.

Now, in case you're like THE AIRHEADS and you talk about the Green Party without ever doing the actual work, let me note that Jesse didn't run for the party's nomination.  There were eight candidates in the primaries -- CRAPAPEDIA will tell you nine -- and Jesse was not one of them.  He did get 2% of the vote at the convention.  So he Jesse didn't run.  Why was Jimmy Dore angry?

Because Jimmy Dore -- a non-Green -- was furious that the Green Party didn't just give him the nomination.  Jesse had even said, he wouldn't campaign but he'd gladly take the gift.

Jimmy's one of the ones who's appalled when the Democratic Party breaks the rules or rigs their primary.  But he doesn't see the hypocrisy in holding that belief and still slamming the Green Party for not ignoring their rules, ignoring their candidates and just handing their presidential nomination to someone -- to someone to lazy to run for it.

They don't matter.  They need to do what he says.

And that attitude explains how the start of this week was one lie after another about how Cornel was The Green Party's presidential nominee!

It takes a lot of outsiders sneering at The Green Party for years without ever doing the basic research to think that their big name is going to get a party's nomination over a year before the political party's even had their nominating convention.

The entitlement wafts off these people, reeks.

But, hey, Chrissy Lynn Hedges told them so it must be true.  Just like when Chrissy Lynn Hedges showed up on the front page of THE NEW YORK TIMES in October 2001 'reporting' Iraq had WMD and they trained pilots to crash into buildings and . . .

You know all those lies that Dick Cheney and Bully Boy Bush cited to start the illegal war on Iraq.

So if Chrissy Lynn Hedges says it, they're on board.

If you're late to the party, last week Cornel West announced he was the presidential nominee of The People's Party leading many to wonder if dementia had set in at the age of 70.

The People's Party is not a party.  Not a fun one.

It emerged from the tatters of the Bernie Sanders 2016 campaign.  It was going to be the new party that was going to rescue us all.  Yet they fielded no candidates ever.  They had no party convention.  They just Tweeted a lot and talked a lot publicly.  At one point, they had their push to get Jimmy Dore to be their nominee.  That's when you should have figured out that they weren't a real political party.

And I don't mean that as an insult to Jimmy.  I mean that real political parties put nominees before their members and let their members pick the nominee.

Donald Trump was a celebrity and supposedly that was the worst thing in the world and we should all learn from it and experience matters and blah blah blah.

Reality, celebrity lets a lot of people make shortcuts and if you can't do the work required to build a political party, hava an  Insta-Political Party -- step one, just add a celebrity!

While flapping their gums, the party made racist statements.  And held a small 'rally' in February attended by invited right-wing racists -- the push back against the convicted pedophile they wanted to put on stage did receive enough negative commentary that they were forced to remove him.

Along with embracing racism, they also encountered one sexual harassment or assault allegation after another.

These are not new developments and they were not unknown.  We weren't the only ones to note these things and the Green Party itself had to issue an announcement back in February that they were not a part of the People's Party or the 'rally' the People's Party was staging.

So last week, Cornel West proudly announces he is the People's Party's presidential nominee.

BLACK POWER MEDIA interviewed him yesterday (later this morning, Renee Johnston will offer her analysis on the exchange -- offer it at BLACK POWER MEDIA).

What did we learn?

When any rock's kicked over expect to find Chrissy Lynn Hedges underneath.

So, as Cornel tells it in the video above, Chrissy Lynn talked up the People's Party to him and then he and Chrissy decided -- with Chrissy touching base (and genitals?) with the People's Party -- that he and Chrissy would be the presidential ticket for that party.  Cornel the top, Chrissy the bottom -- the power bottom, if you will.   But then, their two wives learned that the two men had been sneaking around and put their feet down.  Chrissy immediately pulled out leaving Conrel in a spot -- the wet spot? -- but Cornel talked his wife into it and so he became a solo ticket.

Cornel explains he's an innocent.  No one ever told him about the People's Party and all its issues and problems.

No one ever told him?

If someone walked up to yuo and said, "HI, I'm the People's Party.  Will you be our presidential nominee?"  -- don't you think you'd ask, "What's the People's Party?"  Don't you think you'd do a little homework before announcing to the world that you were running as their nominee?

Especially if you're so wise and scholarly.

But he's not.  He's not wise and he's not in touch with the world.

That clearly emerges in the interview when Cornel begins speaking to a young child about how he's in California right now and then starts (repeatedly) citing some Tony! Toni! Tone! song.

Because.

You know.

How those kids today are into Tony! Toni! Tone!

Repeatedly.

Cites them repeatedly.

As though encouraging the young kid to catch on and go, "Oh, yeah, Tony! Toni! Tne!"

They release their last studio album in 1996.  For those doing the math, that's 27 years ago.  But, sure, Tony! Toni! Tone! is what all the kids must be talking about today.  Forget Lola Brooke or Bad Bunny or anyone else that kids are actually listening to this year, let's go back 27 years -- an eternity for them -- and talk that.

He's so deeply out of touch.

The other big news?

He can speechify.

He can't answer questions.

Repeatedly, they put questions to him involving what would you do.  Repeatedly, he offers a critiue.

There's nothing wrong with being a critic.  It's how you can identify problems.

But Cornel can't offer any solutions.  He repeatedly identifies a problem and gives his take on it.  If you're being generous (you shouldn't be, he's trying to become president of the United States so he should be able to speak for himself) , his 'plan' is stop spending on bad things.  That's the closest to any 'solution' or 'plan' he ever got.

Is he running for fourth grade president or president of the United States because, you understand, one requires that you actually do work.

So Cornel, 'the intelectual,' refutes the People's Party and claims he never knew what they stood for and it was all a mistake.  Is that his version of "I didn't inhale?" (Bill Clinton reference -- during his run for president he admitted to smoking pot  in college but insisted he didn't inhale.) Or is he just saying, "The Chrissy Lynn made me do it!"

I have no idea.

He doesn't come off as a leader.

Jared Ball presses him on his glorification of Ron DeSantis with that opinion column for THE WALL STREET JOURNAL and the issues regarding testing -- and how the company that Cornel's a part of is pushing for a more restrictive scope.  I haven't read the column.  If I were to, my big concern would be if he disclosed his ties to that company in the piece he wrote or co-wrote?

They did a strong segment, not a fluff segment.  Cornel was an embarrassment.  I look forward to seeing Renee's take later today.

If you're late to the party, be sure to stream this video -- the best one on Conrel representing the People's Party.

An international tribunal has found Iraq’s central bank was to blame for a contractual dispute with an engineering firm that led to the jailing of Australian engineer Robert Pether, prompting his family to make a renewed plea that he be freed from the Baghdad prison cell where he has spent two years.

Pether and his colleague Khalid Radwan were arrested and jailed in 2021 over a contractual dispute between their employer, Cardno ME (CME), and the Central Bank of Iraq, which had hired the firm to help build its new Baghdad headquarters.

[. . .]

A recently published decision reveals the contractual dispute at the heart of their arrest was taken to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)’s International Court of Arbitration, which ruled in February in favour of CME. The decision found the bank was in breach of its contract with CME and ordered that it pay the engineering firm US$13m, which covers the outstanding invoices, compensation, legal costs, and the release of a performance bond provided by CME.

The decision has only just been made public.

Why are Robert and Khalid still being held?

In the US, Leeja Miller addresses the hate merchants in the US and they're attacks on the LGBTQ+ community.

Out Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) is sounding the alarm on how Republicans added a plethora of anti-LGBTQ+ measures during a markup of the Fiscal Year 2024 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill on Tuesday.

He said that his GOP colleagues adopted an amendment “to deny access to medically-necessary care to transgender veterans, prohibit pride flags from being flown at VA facilities, and even allow discrimination against LGBTQ+ people” as the bill was being discussed in the House Appropriations Committee this week.

“Most of the other provisions in this amendment have very little to do with a MilCon bill,” he said during the committee meeting, and are instead “about abortion and gender-affirming care, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and apparently the fear of some cloth, banning pride flags at our veterans’ facilities across the country.”
