1) Carly Simon's Into White. Just released last week. Do yourself a favor and check it out. This is the CD Kat will be reviewing next.
2) Phil Ochs' I Ain't Marching Anymore. This is part of a double disc set that also includes All The News That's Fit To Sing. A bonus track on I Ain't Marching Anymore is an electric version of the title tune. Check it out.
3) Crosby, Stills & Nash's Greatest Hits. Come on, you know you love "Our House"! "Helplessly Hoping" is calling you!
4) Michael Franti & Spearhead's Yell Fire! an instant classic of 2006. If you haven't heard it, why are you punishing yourself? Get the album. "Revolution never comes with a warning . . ."
5) Ben Harper's Both Sides Of The Gun. Haven't heard it? You really must hate good music. This double disc CD has it all. You'll be listening for hours. Get the deluxe edition and you'll have three discs.
6) Lizzie West & The White Buffalo's I Pledge Allegiance To Myself. Amy Goodman played the track "19 Miles to Baghdad" on Friday's Democracy Now! and we thought we were all discovering a new artist. Then C.I. pointed out who it was and that since spring we'd been told we should give the disc a listen. Jim and Kat listened repeatedly when they got home on Friday and C.I. passed the disc on and we all listened during the writing of this edition, over and over. Give credit to Goodman for sharing some good music last week with this song.
7) Aretha Franklin's Young, Gifted & Black (and that's a fact!). "We'll float a genie from a cigarette . . ." You know that caught your attention. And you know you want to hear her version of "A Brand New Me."
8) David Rovics' Halliburton Boardroom Massacre. "Song for Cindy Sheehan" will blow you away but, warning, like Mike you may feel the need to play "Crashing Down" repeatedly, over and over.
9) Neil Young's Living With War. "Roger And Out" is our favorite track this edition. Usually it's "After The Garden" or the title track but this week, it's "Roger And Out."
10) Ani DiFranco's Reprieve. We agree with Kat an amazing album and "Half-Assed" may very well be DiFranco's best song.
