Senator Murray: “The WTO’s ruling confirms what has been clear for more than a decade–that these EU subsidies are illegal, stifle competition, and hurt our manufacturers"
(Washington, D.C.)  – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray issued the following statement regarding the recent World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling that European Union (EU) subsidies for aircraft manufacturer Airbus were anti-competitive and illegal.

“The WTO’s ruling confirms what has been clear for more than a decadethat these EU subsidies are illegal, stifle competition, and hurt our manufacturers. After years of fighting to call out the EU’s anti-competitive trade practices with regard to Airbus, I hope that the EU and Airbus will now commit to a level playing field so that Washington state workers and families aren’t forced to pay for their unfair trade practices.”

Senator Murray has long led the charge to address the EU’s underhanded subsidies of Airbus, which have hurt American manufacturing in Washington state and across the country. After first speaking out against the EU’s unfair trade practices in 2004, Senator Murray has continued to push for the U.S. to stand up for Boeing and other American manufacturers in the WTO.
