Isakson to Hold Hearing on Toxic Exposures Impact on Veterans
‘Toxic Exposure: Examining the VA’s Presumptive Disability Decision-Making Process’
WASHINGTON – The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., will hold an oversight hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., to
hear from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department
of Defense and experts in the community regarding the VA’s “presumptive
disability” decision-making process used to determine whether a veteran
may be eligible for certain benefits due to illnesses caused by exposure
to toxic hazards.
This
hearing will aim to explore the current process used to identify
illnesses that are associated with occupational and environmental health
hazards during military service and discuss possible modifications to
ensure the current process is best to address future exposure-linked
illnesses.

The Senate
Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny
Isakson, R-Ga., in the 116th Congress. Isakson is a veteran himself –
having served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972 – and has
been a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs since he
joined the Senate in 2005. Isakson’s home state of Georgia is home to
more than a dozen military installations representing each branch of the
armed services as well as nearly 700,000 veterans.
