Feminist Majority Foundation Celebrates Nelson Mandela's Legacy
WASHINGTON
-- Feminist Majority Foundation today remembers the legacy of former
South African President Nelson Mandela and celebrates his life-long
commitment to peace and equality.
"Mandela
remains an inspiration for all those fighting for liberty, equality and
freedom, including feminist activists," said FMF President Eleanor
Smeal. "I will always be proud that, as the President of NOW, I was
arrested with other civil rights leaders at the South African Embassy
protesting apartheid. And I am proud of the role feminists played in
eliminating the scourge of apartheid in South Africa."
Mandela's
courage, example and determination inspired multiple generations of
activists fighting for social and economic justice. His work and impact
is visible today and will continue through the efforts of social justice
 advocates around the world.
