WTF jounalism II?

In PROTOCOL, Goldie Hawn's character Sunny Davis appears before Congress and asks, "Do you know what my dad says?  He says if you let a guy sell you a diamond ring for ten cents, chances are you own a ring that's not worth a dime."

The lesson there is about skepticism -- healthy skepticism.  And journalists are supposed to practice that.  Meet Angela Barbuti who apparently owns multiple deeds to the Brooklyn Bridge and has given out her banking information to many people stating in e-mails that they're from South Africa and need her to let them transfer money into her account in a move that will be mutually beneficial.

Yes, Angela never met a claim that she couldn't accept as fact immediately upon hearing it.

That explains this from a report that she filed for THE NEW YORK POST on Saturday evening:

“The Fall Guy” took No. 1 at the box office for the second straight Friday, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

The action comedy took home $3.6 million.

The film, which is loosely based on the 1980s TV show, features Ryan Gosling working as a stuntman on the set of a film directed by his ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt.

Yes, BOX OFFICE MOJO -- as linked to -- does say that THE FALL GUY was number one on Friday.  You know what it doesn't show on Friday's top box office films? KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.  The film that debuted last Friday is no where in the top ten.  Which should have been the first clue to a real journalist that there was a problem with BOX OFFICE MOJO's list.

We usually rely on THENUMBERS.COM because the are accurate and here's their chart for  Friday:

1 N Kingdom of the Planet of … 20th Century… $22,200,000     4,075 $5,448 $22,200,000 1
2 (1) The Fall Guy Universal $3,550,000 +134% -66% 4,008 $886 $39,546,920 8
3 (2) Challengers Amazon MGM S… $1,614,252 +80% -36% 2,609 $619 $35,003,838 15
4 (3) Tarot Sony Pictures $1,000,000 +121% -61% 3,104 $322 $9,565,419 8
5 (7) Godzilla x Kong: The New … Warner Bros. $600,000 +163% -43% 2,531 $237 $189,895,543 43

But if THENUMBERS.COM had put THE FALL GUY at number one for Friday and KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, we would have had enough skepticism to look at another chart.
