Jorgensen promises drastic cuts to federal spending, bolstering of self-defense rights
AUSTIN, Texas; Aug. 10, 2020— The Libertarian presidential nominee, Dr. Jo Jorgensen, is motoring her way through the Lone Star State and speaking at campaign rallies in Austin on Monday and Allen (Dallas area) on Tuesday.
Ted Brown of Austin, the Libertarian Party (LP) candidate for U.S. House in Texas’s 17th District, said he is looking forward to participating in Monday’s rally.
“I’m incredibly proud to be running on the ticket with Jo Jorgensen, who for more than 25 years has boldly proclaimed and is today clearly expressing the Libertarian platform,” said Brown. “And to boot, she’s the presidential candidate no one has accused of misogynistic behavior or racist rantings! But all kidding aside, Jo is truly the practical and principled alternative that the American people need to hear.”
Petitioners are striving to provide that alternative to voters nationwide as they did in 2012 and 2016, although it’s a feat that governmental and politicians’ pandemic-driven restrictions have made especially daunting for the LP this year. Ballot Access News reported on Friday that election officials in Alaska have approved the LP for inclusion on their ballot this November, bringing to 38, so far, the number of jurisdictions where Jorgensen and her vice-presidential running mate, Jeremy “Spike” Cohen, are sure to appear on the ballot, with petitioning efforts continuing in the remaining 13 states.
Jorgensen was the LP’s vice-presidential nominee in 1996, alongside the late Harry Browne. Her platform calls for protecting individuals’ right to self-defense, instituting an opt-out policy for Social Security, and slashing federal spending, leading to smaller government, lower taxes, and greater prosperity.
“Voting for more government spending inevitably leads to higher taxes,” said Jorgensen. “As president, I will work tirelessly to slash federal spending and let ordinary Americans keep what they earn.” Jorgensen also plans to abolish the ATF: “I am dedicated to the unalienable right of individuals to keep and bear arms, and I will work to repeal every federal law passed in the last 100 years that infringes on this fundamental right.”
Jorgensen’s Texas campaign events are part of a 16-day, 20-city campaign bus tour that launched on the first of August. The campaign bus will head to Oklahoma on Wednesday followed by Missouri on Thursday and Friday. Cohen will be launching a complementary campaign bus tour on Aug. 19 through Labor Day.
