U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Supports Gold Star Families
Senator
Baldwin votes to help the families of fallen soldiers contribute
stories about their loved ones to the Library of Congress’
Veterans History Project
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin voted in support of the
Gold Star Families Voices Act (H.R.4511). The legislation will
allow the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project to collect video
and audio recordings of biographical histories from the immediate
family members of service men and women who became
missing in action or who died as a result of their wartime service.
Currently, only living veterans are able to contribute to the Veterans
Oral History Project, which excludes all of tales and narratives of our
fallen soldiers.
“As
we reflect on Veterans Day, it is important to remember that we have a
shared responsibility to support veterans and their families every day,”
Senator Baldwin said. “The Gold Star Family Voices Act will help ensure that the brave men and women who
made the ultimate sacrifice are remembered and that their service
is honored. Their stories of sacrifice can be an inspiration to all of
us, to do our part to serve those who have served.”
The
Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress’ American Folklife
Center collects, preserves and makes accessible the personal accounts of
American war veterans
so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better
understand the realities of war.
