MEMORIAL DAY: Senator Murray’s Statement Honoring Fallen Servicemembers
Washington,
D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following
statement as the nation prepares to commemorate Memorial Day:
“This
Memorial Day, we are united in honoring the American heroes who
answered the call to service and made the ultimate sacrifice
to
protect our nation, our families, and our freedom. It is because of
their sacrifice that our children and grandchildren can enjoy a future
safe from harm and full of opportunity. And
it is because of their selfless commitment that America can remain a
beacon for democracy throughout the world.
“Memorial
Day is a day of remembrance, but also a day for reflection. When our
brave men and women volunteered to protect our nation, we promised we
would take care
of them and their families when they return home. We must reaffirm our
commitment to those still bravely serving and to remember those who gave
their lives in service to our country.”
