From The TESR Test Kitchen

Who doesn't love Rice Krispie Treats?  Who doesn't love M&Ms?  So who wouldn't love Kellogg's Rice Crispie Treats with Milk Chocolate M&M Minis?

Uh, as Dionne Warwick sang, "Anyone who had a heart!"

The 'treat' part is still a winner.  It's the M&Ms that fail.  Tasting it, we didn't even think they were actually M&Ms and had to look at the wrappers.  Maybe these are M&M minis.  Whatever they are, they taste like really cheap chocolate.  And part of the M&M experience should include a candy with the hard candy shell.

Instead, it's exposed soft chocolate which actually tastes like it's expired.

We like the idea of this treat but unless/until Kellogg's improves their recipe, we suggest you bake your own.

You can use this recipe to do so:

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package 10 oz. package (about 40) regular marshmallows
  • 6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups M&M chocolate candies

                   How to Make It

Step 1
In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
Step 2
Add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated. Add M&M's® chocolate candies. Gently stir until well mixed.
Step 3
Using a spatula, press mixture evenly into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan lined with parchment paper. Bring parchment paper up on both ends to allow ease in removing from pan. Allow to cool.
Step 4
Turn treats out of pan upside down. Remove parchment paper. Use Christmas Tree-shaped cookie cutter sprayed with cooking spray to cut out shapes.
Step 5
Microwave Directions:
Step 6
