Editorial: It just makes the Kurds stronger

Creating strife, creating chaos.

That's what Hayder al-Abadi is doing.

The Prime Minister of Iraq is persecuting the Kurdish people.

Over 92% of the Kurds voted for independence in a non-binding referendum.

Hayder was so offended by a non-binding vote that he sent the military (which illegally includes the militias) to attack the Kurds.

US President Donald Trump did nothing to stop this attack proving that with regards to Iraq he is just as craven as every other US president before him.  It's not important that the Iraqi people be represented by the government and it doesn't even matter if the prime minister attacks them physically.

For the US government, the only thing that matters is that whomever gets installed by the US stays in the position.

The people aren't allowed safety but the US government must have continuity.

That's why Barack Obama waited until the summer of 2014 to inform Nouri al-Maliki that he was out and would not have a third term.

Nouri had been bombing the people of Anbar, bombing civilian homes, on a daily basis beginning in January of that year.  This is a legally defined War Crime.

But Barack didn't care.  He just wanted Nouri.

In the 2010 elections, the Iraqi people rejected Nouri.  But Barack didn't care.  He just wanted Nouri so he had the US broker The Erbil Agreement, a legal contract, that went around the will of the Iraqi people to provide Nouri with a second term.

The Iraqi people suffer repeatedly.

The US government, regardless of who is president, talks about democracy and the will of the people, but these are empty words.

They don't mean them and they've demonstrated that over and over with regards to Iraq.
