Highlights

Unless otherwise noted, these highlights were picked out by Rebecca, Cedric, Betty, Kat, Wally, Elaine and Mike.

"Bean Salad in the Kitchen" -- Trina's latest recipe mixed in with a discussion about why she'd vote for Dennis Kucinich if the election were Tuesday and a lot more.

"Thomas Friedman tries to work it" -- Betty's latest chapter explores what happens the psyche of the street walker too old to troll.

"MoveOn, Elizabeth Edwards" -- we would have picked this ourselves but Ty passed on that eight e-mails came in asking that we note this post by Elaine.

"Other Items" -- Gina and Krista, who are mentioned in this entry by C.I., begged us to pick this one. It's covering a lot of ground.

"THIS JUST IN! THE NEW EXCUSE!" & "It's not 'lying,' it's 'alining'" -- Wally and Cedric's joint-post explaining the White House's new term for "lie."

"Law and Disorder, Stupid StudentNation" -- Rebecca advocated strongly for this by Mike, noting it was a talking post, it covered radio and it addressed the so-called Student Nation.

"NYT: We sold you the war, but now we're bored with it" -- and Eli (who can get us to highlight anything he wants, anytimes, he's the oldest member of The Common Ills community and we hope we're half as cool when we're his age) asked that we highlight this entry by C.I.

"KPFA, I'm pissed!" -- Kat expressing a very common feeling.

"THIS JUST IN! CORP MEDIA PLAYS 'WE SO STUPID'" and "The nonthinking corporate press" -- Wally and Cedric's take on the talking point that failed (or petered out).

"kyle sampson will testify," "fraud?," "robert parry, greg palast, dennis bernstein," and "bully boy wants to cut a deal" -- 4 posts by Rebecca charting the Alberto Gonzales scandal. We're trying to rush through this feature while the gang works on edit to a long ass essay and Rebecca wants to argue with us over 4 posts -- saying, it's too many. As Elaine said, "It's a bit late in the game for you to become modest." :D (This is Mike, I'm typing. Therefore the ":D.") Provided we put it last, Rebecca agreed to let all four be put in the highlights. But she's not last. Ty just reminded Kat of one more.

"Iraq snapshot" -- C.I.'s Friday snapshot. Ty: "This really touched a nerve for women, younger and older. I know from Jim that the part about women almost didn't get in because C.I. couldn't figure out a way to transition. Jim said C.I. just said 'Screw it" and put it in. Good thing because the response on this from people insisting we make it a highlight has been incredible. 'This is what I was thinking' and 'You put into words what I couldn't' was the way e-mails went. If you leave it out, I will tell everyone who writes back to complain that it was you and give them all of your e-mails so they can write each one of you to complain." Easy there, Ty, we'll put it in. :D
